We’ve all seen those splashy ads for Discounted Steel Building Kits. You may get flyers in the mail. Or see them in the newspaper. These ads can be very enticing.

Everyone likes sales and discounts. None of us wants to pay more for a product than they have to. Does the phrase ‘Buyer Beware’ jump out at you when you see these ads?

Please don’t get me wrong. You can find legitimate deals on steel buildings and building kits out there. You will need to get through the advertising hype and do a thorough analysis of the product and the pricing.

Potential Pitfalls of Discount Steel Buildings

The discounted building may not be the best deal available. You must compare prices and ensure that the building you purchase is exactly right for you.

Discount steel buildings are often engineered for the minimal loads – i.e. snow, wind, rain, seismic. You must ensure that the building you purchase is engineered for your site’s conditions and codes.

These discounted buildings are most often of a simple box design – either square or rectangular. This may not be a problem if that is what you are looking for.

When the steel building manufacturers advertises discounted buildings there is often limited or no color options.

If you require additional loads on the building – overhead cranes, hoists, rooftop HVAC units, suspended piping etc. you will need to have a building engineered for this. Discount buildings don’t usually allow any extra loading as their design is optimized.

There are often few -if any – accessories included with discounted steel buildings. Metal building accessories that can be included in steel building packages (at an additional cost) can include man doors, storefront doors, overhead doors, large sliding doors, windows, roof windows or skylights, overhangs, building insets, roof ventilators, mezzanines… the list is almost endless.

Once you engage in conversation with a sales-person pushing discounted buildings, there can be a lot of advertising hype and high-pressure sales pitches. You know the ones; We have two on our shelf; We just had an order cancelled; We had twenty to sell and are down to our last one. DON’T BE PRESSURED! Make sure that the steel building you want and require is the steel building that you will receive – and at the best price. (Not all sales-people sell this way, but just beware that it can and does happen.

Please don’t get me wrong with this very negative article. I have been in the metal building business for many years and can tell you first hand that there are legitimate deals out there for outstanding steel buildings. You just need to do your homework.

April 3rd, 2010Steel Buildings for Sale

Steel buildings are used for residential, commercial, recreational and agricultural purposes. Advantages of steel buildings are low building cost, durability and less time consumption. Prices of steel buildings depend on the price of steel at any given time. Steel buildings for sale give customers an option to buy the best at a low price. Sometimes if the cost of building materials or steel is lowered, steel buildings are available for sale.

A small percentage of steel building deals fail to materialize. Some customers create financial loss to the seller when they do not collect the product within the time limit. Then the product remains undelivered. In such cases, companies offer steel buildings for sale at very low prices. There is a reduction of $2000 to $4000 from the current market price. Extra fittings and other accessories of steel buildings are also kept for sale at cheap rates. Immediate availability of necessary goods is another benefit in the sale of steel buildings.

Some firms conduct year end clearance sales of steel buildings for special prices. Steel buildings for sale during festival and seasonal occasions are a great boon to customers. Modern facilities, wide selection and cheap rates make these sales a profitable event for buyers. To familiarise new steel building materials to the market, some factories give discounts to those special products. Normally steel buildings for sale by certain firms last only for a fixed period. Even single day sales are conducted by companies on limited pre-constructed steel buildings. Used steel buildings for sale are also available at very low rates.

According to the terms and conditions of some companies, steel buildings for sale do not include accessories or end walls. They also take transportation charge from customers. Online sale of steel buildings with a quote comparison list helps customers to evaluate products with respect to price and quality. Bidding of steel buildings for sale also enables customers to select the best options at low rates. The sale of steel buildings is promoted by companies to survive the tight competition in the market.

Sometimes, moving is something that is necessary. Everything has to be packed up in order to be taken to the new destination. It all has to be loaded in a moving vehicle of some sort only to be unpacked when it reaches the new location. After everything is taken out of the building, you look back at it with sadness because of the fond memories you have, but that is something you must leave behind. Well, you’re at least leaving the neighborhood behind.

You stand there watching how these guys are putting the building on the back of an 18 wheeler and you can’t wait until it is delivered to the new location that your company acquired. There is more land and more steel buildings to be delivered to the location. Not too many people can move to a location that is ten miles away from them and actually take the building with them.

Depending on the size of the steel building, it can be moved in pieces and put together at its final destination. Sometimes a steel building may be like a storage container that is used as an office. Whatever the reason, there is a process to moving a steel building. It may seem like a mystery to some as to how it is possible to move something so large and so heavy, but the process is rather easy at times.

It doesn’t matter if the building is new and just being built or is an existing structure that needs to be moved, it has to be divided up into pieces. When it is a new building, the pieces are built, shipped to the building’s destination, and then assembled there. If the building is an existing structure, then it will be divided into the same pieces it was in when it arrived brand new. After this occurs, the following steps take place:

• The pieces are lifted by a building jack apparatus. The buildings are usually built with slots in which the building jack apparatus can be inserted.

• The jack then lifts the building up to a predetermined height, but instead of it being lifted onto the truck, the truck backs up under the lifted building. The jack then lowers the building onto the bed of the trailer.

• When the building meets its destination, the same method can be used to lift the building off of the trailer bed or the trailer bed may be hydraulic and can carefully slide the building off of the back of it. This step depends on whether or not that piece of the building can stand on its own. This process is repeated for all of the pieces. Depending on the size of the building, it can take several trucks to move the building.

However, when moving a steel building that has already been in place for a while, it is necessary to employ a company that has the trucks, the manpower, and the proper tools to move a steel building. Usually, those who actually manufacture them can provide moving services for people who need to move steel buildings, but such services do come with a cost. It is more or less going to depend on how many pieces need transported and the size of the building. These factors will determine how many trucks are needed, what tools are needed, and how many people need to be involved in the moving effort. It can be quite extensive. At least if anyone has doubts about a steel building being able to be moved, you can contradict them by telling them that you know the basics of how it is done.

March 30th, 2010Steel Building Insulation

Heat transfer in steel buildings occurs in three ways. They are conduction, convection and radiation. These problems can be regulated using proper insulation. Steel building insulation slows down the movement of heat. Insulation can regulate the temperature of these buildings. Steel building insulation also helps to diminish sound by sound absorption. The type and amount of insulation depends on the location of steel buildings. Steel building insulation provides energy savings, noise control and condensation control. There are different methods for steel building insulation.

The most widely used method for insulation is fiberglass insulation. Long strand fiberglass blankets are used for steel building insulation. Fiberglass is laminated on one side to a vapor barrier facing. Fiberglass insulation depends on the thickness of the blanket and the type of facing material. The quality of the fiberglass blanket is related to its thickness. Heat flow slows down with the increasing thickness of insulation.

Facing material is important in fiberglass insulation method. The main function of the facing material is to act as a vapor barrier. Different facing materials vary in their workability, permeability and durability. The workability of a facing material is related to the temperature conditions required for installation. Permeability of a facing is connected to the rate of water vapor. Durability refers to the physical quality of the facing material. The most commonly used facing material is polypropylene. The relative effectiveness of an insulator is determined by R value. R value is used to measure the total thermal transmittance of a material.

Reflective insulation is another method for steel building insulation. Reflective insulation is used to maintain the natural temperature. Heat transfer can be regulated using reflective insulation. Reflective insulation is composed of two outer layers of aluminum foil and an inner layer of inert material. Polyethylene or plastic can be used as the inner layer. Fiberglass inner layer gives more insulation power. Reflective insulation is not affected by humidity. It requires no special handling or clothing and is effective in both warm and cold weather.

Spray on insulation is a method for steel building insulation. It can be used for fire protection, moisture and thermal insulation. Spray on insulation consists of a mineral fibre and polyvinyl alcohol. The surface of steel is sprayed using a machine. Polyurethane spry foam can be used for steel building insulation.

March 27th, 2010DIY Steel Buildings

DIY or Do It Yourself steel buildings are self built by owners. DIY steel buildings offer a unique opportunity to construct a building solely according to personal preferences. Do It Yourself is the popular trend in America, the personal identity of a person being reflected in his belongings. DIY thoughts can be realized in construction using steel materials. Steel is a flexible alloy that can be engineered to any type of structure. DIY steel buildings are very much functional since the design is chosen by the user. DIY steel buildings include temporary shelters, garage, storage area, commercial buildings and retail buildings.

DIY steel buildings can be custom designed. The builder can either personalize available patterns or design a new one. Plenty of patterns are available from web resources and manufacturer catalogs, to be modified according to individual needs. The customer has the privilege to add suggestions regarding size, shape, height, area and structure patterns. The color of the panels can be chosen from the available pool. Building accessories also can be included according to the client’s needs. The custom design pre-engineered steel frame system is available in readymade DIY kits. The DIY kits also include all the necessary subsystems such as bolts and screws for the assembly of the steel building.

DIY steel buildings incorporate arch models and straight roof models. Rigid frame work models are also available. Arch models are easy to install and ergonomic. They integrate walls and roof to a single arch structure, and offer maximum space to occupy. Straight roof models give a traditional look to the structure. DIY steel structures require a strong foundation to be mounted on. According to the requirement of soil, the builder can construct base rail system or concrete slab for the foundation. The steel frame is then erected. The roof and wall panels are fastened with anchor bolts and screws.

DIY steel buildings can satisfy all the requirements of the customer. The buildings are also durable and weather resistant. DIY buildings are economical since labor cost can be avoided. Sophisticated tools are also unnecessary. DIY steel buildings can be assembled easily with simple tools within a short span of time. DIY steel kit manufacturers offer warranty for about 30 years.

Steel building construction has seen phenomenal growth in the last few years. Although steel buildings have been used in the commercial and industrial sectors for a long time, they are increasingly gracing the skylines of countries all over the world.

Use of metals in construction began in the 1700’s with the use of iron columns within walls. Iron beams and columns became a common feature in large industrial buildings over the years. Ever since Sir Henry Basserner invented steel in 1855, it has become an integral part of bridges, pipelines and even skyscrapers. Various difficulties with the use of wood, such as its expense and the impact its use has on the environment, have contributed to the popularity of steel.

Steel buildings offer many advantages. They are usually constructed much faster than buildings using other materials; the costs are usually lower compared to traditional building methods; they are lighter weight; they are easier to maintain; and they carry a reduced risk of fire. Moreover, steel is 66% recyclable, which makes it an especially cost-effective and environmentally sound alternative to any other construction material. Above all, strength is a major plus for steel. Steel structures can withstand unfavorable weather conditions such as hurricanes, high winds, heavy snow and even earthquakes. They are also resistant to termites, creeping, cracks, splitting and rotting, thus increasing durability.

Even though steel framed homes are still slightly more expensive than traditional wood-based buildings, savings from the fact that they are more energy-efficient and reduced maintenance make them an attractive alternative. Besides, they can be given a conventional look by covering them with traditional building materials like bricks, siding or stucco. There are various benefits such as lower insurance costs (since risk of fire is lower), lower assembly and labor costs, and decreased material costs due to prefabricated designing. Modern technologies have also influenced the growth of the steel building systems industry since it can be used for better design and fabrication.

Steel building products, including steel frames, are made of recycled steel. No less than 28% of steel frames are recycled steel, which can then be recycled in turn. This is better for the environment than wood, as it is estimated that a typical 2000-square-foot home uses the wood from around almost 50 trees. The same house, when built with steel, requires only about six scrapped automobiles.

March 15th, 2010Steel Building Construction

Steel building construction is the process of building a structure, using steel as the raw material. Steel is an advantageous building material that enables a simple and easy construction process. Steel building construction has 48% of the total market share of construction. It includes commercial buildings, industrial buildings, temporary shelters, storage units, churches and air hangers. The construction process differs with the style of the building. However, the basic steps are the same. Steel building construction is flexible than traditional building methods. Steel building construction is taken up by many architectural firms. It also provides the opportunity for do-it-yourself construction.

Planning and scheduling are the pre-requisites of steel building construction. The standard patterns include LRB, LR and LM. The design that suits the needs and purpose can be finalized from available patterns. In standard construction, the material fabrication is done at the site of the building under the supervision of the engineers, according to the custom design. Now, pre-engineered systems are available, in which 70% of the system fabrication is done in the manufacturer’s factory and shipped to the construction site. The customer merely has to assemble the building kit on the ground. This reduces the labor and 2 or 3 people will be enough to erect this building.

The style of steel building construction is based on the space requirements. A building permit is essential to start the construction. The foundation is the basic step of onsite construction. Depending on the weather and soil conditions, an appropriate foundation lay out is selected. Concrete floor slabs or steel base rails have to be built. The main columns of the steel frame are embedded to the foundation. The building rafters are fixed to the columns with anchor bolts. The wall frames leave places for doors and windows. The roof sheet is installed on the purlins and wall girts with metal screws. Door and window installation is the final step in steel building construction. In case of arch construction, the arches that act as side walls as well as roofs can be erected from the foundation, one after the other. Insulation can be also added to the steel building.

Steel building construction offers benefits such as faster installation, sustainability and unlimited design flexibility. It reduces energy cost and the amount of waste material. It does not require any sophisticated tools for assembly. Steel constructions can successfully withstand natural pressures such as earthquakes, severe cold or hurricanes. New innovations in the color code and accessories will add to the aesthetics of steel building construction. Visit our website.

February 14th, 2010Steel Buildings

Steel buildings have a vast amount of uses, in fact, these buildings can be used as an office or living space and as a storage building. These buildings have changed according to the specific needs and how they will be used. Interestingly, steel buildings started to gain popularity in the 20th century, when these buildings were used throughout the World War II. These buildings become even more popular after the war when steel was more available.

There are many of advantages to steel buildings like high quality and low maintenance costs. They are also non combustible and are environmentally friendly. They are also more budget friendly than any other construction methods.
However, just as there are advantages, there must be disadvantages and one of the disadvantages to these types of buildings are their heat conductivity.

Modern buildings made from steel are composed of many segments that evolve over time. Buildings created from steel have become much safer as the integrity of the bases and over all structures have been improved.
So many things can be used with Steel Buildings like restaurants, storage, work force building, or even a retail shopping center. There are also homes that are made out of steel.

When looking for a steel building you should first think about what you would want to use for your steel building. Do you want to use it for a home? A store, Or maybe for extra storage.
You can build this Steel Building in the back yard of your very own home. You can go online to get info on getting your very own building or go where ever you can to find out more information and then start from there.

Steel Buildings can also be used for barns, to store animals. If you own a farm this will be perfect for you to use to place your horses, pigs, or whatever animal you might own. If that is not your thing and you don’t have animals maybe using the building for maybe a small candy store or for more storage. It’ll help you to make extra money or to help keep all the clutter down and you will not have to look at the cluttered mess anymore.

Metal Buildings can also be used as garages, where you can place your vehicle there or lawn mower and maybe even your kids bikes or riding toys. It’ll save you a lot of space.
Greenhouses can also be used for Steel Buildings, if you have plants then see if you can make one into a green house.
Carports are also Steel and you can use them for sheltering your vehicles or for just shelter from the rain and or heat. Sheds can also be used for Steel Buildings, Sheds are almost like Barns and you can use them for the same thing or maybe just to place your tools.

Buildings made from steel are also used as a storage garage, just like you see in public. You can building your own storage units and save money on storing the things that you have that you no longer need.

February 12th, 2010Residential Steel Buildings

Residential steel buildings are becoming more popular in the construction industry. Different parts of a residential building are manufactured in a factory. Steel is the raw material used to make the skeleton of the building. Advantages of residential steel buildings are low building cost, durability and less time consumption.

You can suggest the basic design of the home and select the type of roof, interior wall, and number of doors and windows. Any other individual enrichment of the building can also be suggested at the time of designing. After accepting the plans, different accessories such as beams, posts, girders, roof panels and nuts and bolts are produced at the factory. The foundation of residential steel buildings is made of concrete. The factory made parts are transported to the proposed site and bolted together to make an attractive steel house. Adequate insulation, ventilation, wiring, interior and exterior finishing and plumbing are also done for residential steel buildings. The exterior of these buildings can be made more attractive by brick, stucco or wood.

Drainage requirements and local zoning laws are to be satisfied for the legal approvement of each project. A rigid frame style is preferred for residential steel buildings. Steel frame buildings with flat steel panels for roofs and walls is used in this style. Doors and windows can be placed in any wall and the size of the building may also be expanded if needed. Other optional accessories in residential steel buildings are gutters and downspouts to clear off water, double pane glass and insulated doors.

The cost of a typical residential steel building ranges from $16 to $20 per sq ft. Building materials, transportation, foundation and construction are included in this price. Exterior brick finishing or complex designing can be priced around $40 per sq ft. You can buy residential steel buildings from general contractors and brokers who are linked with different factories. Manufacturers also sell component parts directly to their customers. It is always desirable to buy genuine components from a renowned dealer for perfect construction and service. Warranty for almost thirty years is also given for residential steel buildings.

January 16th, 2010Steel Building Prices

Steel buildings are a new trend in the construction industry. Different parts of these buildings are manufactured in a factory. Steel is the raw material used to make the skeleton of the building. Advantages of steel buildings are low building cost, durability and less time consumption. Steel building prices depend on the price of steel at the given time. Horse riding field, residential and office buildings, barns, garages, aircraft hangers, warehouses and industrial buildings can be constructed out of steel.

Steel building prices range from $6 to $20 per sq ft for standard size buildings. This price may include building materials, transportation, foundation and construction, depending on the terms and conditions of contractors. You can calculate the estimated building price during the pre-planning of the project. Depending on the building area, the price varies to a great extent. Standard steel building prices do not include extra features that are very expensive and optional. Color roof sheeting prices range from $175 to $1300 according to the size of the building. To enrich roof and wall insulation, around $795 to $5000 are to be spent with respect to the area of the building.

Steel building prices to include gutters and downspouts range from $375 to $1000. An average of about $500 is needed to add a 3×7 walk door with framed opening, metal door, lock and other accessories. For overseas delivery shipping charges are also counted. Double pane glass for windows and insulated doors are expensive, but increases the security and beauty of the building. Steel building prices hike to $40 per sq ft for complex designing with exterior brick finishing. Labour costs for steel building construction are charged hourly. As the complexity increases, a simultaneous increase in the labour cost also occurs. General contractors include foundation costs in their proposals but brokers and manufacturers do not bear the expense. Normally $4 to $8 per sq ft is charged for a concrete foundation. The bidding of steel buildings helps customers to select the best at low rates.
